As I’ve previously mentioned, the abundance of deep fried fish, wine, and ice cream has required I get some exercise. So we’ve been walking again. On today’s walk, I threw a bucket onto my little one’s stroller, and picked some chokecherries. A little under ripe, I admit. But this year seems to be a bumper crop of wild berries. I cannot wait for the highbush cranberries to ripen – the trees are heavy with them along our usual walk.
This is the first time I’ve worked with chokecherries. They’re interesting. Bitter, but similar to a nanking cherry in flavor. I’m a little stumped about what to do with this – other than make yet another batch of gelato. Chokecherry gelato. Now there’s some regional food for ya.
